According to USA Today, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have hired former Vols offensive coordinator Dave Clawson as their new head coach.

"Wake Forest has hired Dave Clawson from Bowling Green as its next football coach, a person familiar with the situation said. The person said a news conference to introduce Clawson was expected Tuesday in Winston-Salem, N.C. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday night because the move had not been announced by either school."

Wake’s new head coach served as Tennessee’s offensive coordinator during the Vols’ ill-fated 2008 season. The Vols had one of their worst statistical seasons ever in 2008, with four games where they didn’t even score in double digits.

Clawson, who was taking over for David Cutcliffe, was relieved of his duties as offensive coordinator after Lane Kiffin was hired as Tennessee’s head coach, following the 2008 season. He was then hired as Bowling Green’s head coach, where he just led the Falcons to a 10-win season and a MAC championship.

Dave Clawson will be replacing Jim Grobe, who led the Demon Deacons for 13 seasons, which included an ACC championship and BCS berth in 2006.
