It’s been a while since the Vols made a splash in the recruiting world.
That’s something that’s been a bit uncommon for Butch Jones since coming to Tennessee.
So it’s appropriate that UT ended the drought on Monday morning with the commitment of four-star ATH Jauan Jennings.
Jennings, a native of Murfreesboro, TN (Blackman), is a 6’4″/185 lb extremely versatile athlete that can play either quarterback or safety. 247Sports rates him as the number one player in the state of Tennessee.
The Tennessee native chose the Vols over offers from Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Virginia and several others.
Jennings wants a shot as a quarterback and his dual-threat style certainly fits into the Vols’ style of play. I’m sure Tennessee will give him a look at quarterback, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him end up on the defensive side of the ball.
The Vols are still after their top quarterback target, five-star Torrance Gibson.
I doubt Jennings’ commitment will help/hurt Gibson’s decision in any way.
Gibson aside, Jennings is till a huge get for the Vols and just another example of how Butch Jones makes in-state recruiting a top priority.
