Vols Explode on Offense in Orange & White Game

Today’s Orange & White spring game marked the end of spring practice for the Tennessee Volunteer football team. This was the first taste of a large crowd for the 14 early enrollees, as there were 68, 548 announced in attendance. The second largest attendance ever for the Orange & White game saw an offensive explosion, as the White team (offense) put up 762 total yards against the Orange team (defense).
The standouts for today’s scrimmage were Sophomore QB Joshua Dobbs and Freshman WR Josh Malone. Coincidentally, Dobbs and Malone hooked up twice for long TDs. Once for 49 yards and again for 79 yards. Dobbs finished 6-9 passing for 199 yards and 3 TDs. He also improvised on a broken play, as he dropped the snap, picked it up, and ran 59 yards for another TD.
Malone showed off his speed and burst with 6 catches for 181 yards and 3 TDs. The two long TDs from Dobbs were on long routes where he torched his defender. Marquez North also had a long 50 yard TD catch from Justin Worley. North finished with 5 catches for 106 yards and 1 TD.
Newcomer Jalen Hurd had a solid day in the backfield. On the second drive of the game, Hurd leaked out of the backfield and caught a pass from Nathan Peterman and went 27 yards down to the 24. He capped off the drive with a 4 yard plunge for a TD. He finished with 11 carries for 66 yards and a TD to go along with 1 catch for 27 yards.
