From WBIR

"Tennessee senior shortstop Madison Shipman has been named the SEC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. This week’s honor marks the second time Shipman has been named SEC Player of the Week this season and the third time she has received the accolades in her UT career. She previously was SEC Player of the Week on March 24, 2014, and April 9, 2012.Shipman is the third Tennessee softball player to earn SEC Player of the Week honors three times in a career, joining Raven Chavanne (2010-13, six times) andLindsay Schutzler (2004-07, three times).Shipman was unstoppable at the plate this week, bashing five home runs with eight RBIs, seven runs, a 1.750 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage (2.350 OPS).Shipman played a major role in No. 4 Tennessee’s 13-5, five-inning win over Tennessee Tech on April 8."

From The Times Free Press

"It’s always dangerous to put too much stock in the box score of a spring game, and it’s possibly even more foolish to compare one year’s spring game to another. That might not apply to the University of Tennessee, though. The comparison of the receiving yardage stats in the Volunteers’ Orange and White Game the past two springs shows a stark contrast and provides evidence as to how far the team has come at wideout in a year’s time.In 2013, the Vols’ top three spring-game performers — Devrin Young, Cody Blanc and Vincent Dallas — combined to catch seven passes for 125 yards.Freshman Josh Malone piled up six catches for 181 yards by himself this past Saturday."

From The UT Daily Beacon

"Fair or not, all of this was expected of Jarnell Stokes. The consensus five-star recruit gave Tennessee Volunteer fans the best Christmas present possible back on Dec. 22, 2011, when he announced he would enroll early in Knoxville instead of Florida, Memphis or Kentucky. And at the perfect time, too — the Vols were 4-6 and coming off losses to Oakland, Charleston and at home against Austin Peay (yikes) to begin the Cuonzo Martin era.At that point, the average overzealous Vol fan draped a world of responsibility onto Stokes’ Michelin-Man shoulders to be the driving force in putting UT basketball back on the map.And through all the ups and downs, he knew Friday after announcing decision to leave Knoxville and enter the NBA draft that he had accomplished that feat.“I felt like at the time (I arrived at UT),” Stokes said at his NBA draft announcement Friday, “the state of Tennessee, the university, needed a player like me to come in and sort of get a little media attention and change things."
