Torrance Gibson, the five-star quarterback that Tennessee covets the most, has offers from the three major schools in Florida (UF, FSU and Miami), but don’t expect him to be committing to any of the three.
This is great news for the Vols, but hardly a surprise.
Gibson was already favoring schools outside of Florida, such as Ohio State and Tennessee.
Auburn is also believed to be in Gibson’s top schools, but he did cancel his trip to Auburn for the spring game on Saturday. This is after Gibson tweeted that he was “packing his bags for Auburn”.
However, Gibson told us on Saturday that he’s still very interested in Auburn.
Gibson was also unable to attend Tennessee’s spring game last weekend.
Earlier this month Gibson told us that he will name a leader on May 5, but I wouldn’t expect him to commit shortly after announcing a leader.
If the Vols are able to somehow land Gibson, it would be the biggest get of Butch Jones’ tenure in Tennessee. Going down to Florida and grabbing the top dual-threat quarterback in the nation is no small feat.
In order to do that, however, the Vols will need to have some success in 2014 to show Gibson that the program is on the right track.
