The Vols have turned their attention to Michael White to fill their head coaching vacancy, according to CBS Sports’ Gary Parrish.

White is currently the head coach at Louisiana Tech.

That alone will have Vol fans instantly recalling the last UT hire that came from Louisiana Tech (Derek Dooley), but don’t fret — this coach actually has a winning record (74-31).

White spent seven season as an assistant on the Ole Miss coaching staff, his Alma Mater, before taking his current position at Louisiana Tech in 2011.

In three seasons at La Tech, White has led the team to an increase in wins each year, but he’s not been able to lead the program to an NCAA tournament berth.

The Bulldogs played in the NIT the past two seasons, reaching the quarterfinals last year.

Despite this fact, I still think White would be a solid hire by Tennessee. He’s improved a down-trodden program at La Tech. He could do the same at Tennessee
