"New Tennessee basketball coach Donnie Tyndall did the right thing when he released the four signees he inherited. But it’s going to hurt.Tyndall runs the risk of bringing a butter knife into the sword fight of an SEC schedule. Even though the recruiting class compiled by Cuonzo Martin lacked big names, it would have provided across-the-board depth that Tennessee desperately needs. The Vols are short on bodies and talent. Only eight scholarship players remain, and one of them, Quinton Chievous, had planned to transfer but now says he will see how offseason workouts go before deciding whether to remain at Tennessee for his junior season. Those leaving the program are taking a bulk of this season’s stats with them. The Vols have lost 72 percent of their scoring and 64 percent of their rebounding off a team that made a Sweet 16 run."

"With spring practice in the rear-view mirror, the current state of the Tennessee Volunteers football team is becoming clearer. While there is still an entire offseason to correct mistakes and more than half of a vaunted recruiting class yet to arrive in Knoxville, early assessments can be made about the 2014 rendition of the Vols. The initial returns are that even though they aren’t nearly ready to compete at a championship level, they’ve improved since coach Butch Jones’ inaugural season. In the midst of his post-spring evaluation, Jones told Volquest.com’s Brent Hubbs and John Brice (subscription required) his team is green but growing: “I think the overall strides has been the complete overall development of our football team in terms of forming great habits, improving some positions from a competitive standpoint, our standards and our expectations.”"

"Tennessee has tee time for an NCAA Regional. For the 22nd consecutive season, the Lady Vols made a regional field when the teams and individuals were announced on Monday.Despite a 13th place finish at the SEC Championship, the Lady Vols will compete in the West Region May 8-10 in Cle Elum, Wash. UT will play at the Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort. The University of Washington will be the host school.“We are thrilled to have made the NCAA field for the 22nd consecutive time,” Tennessee coach Judi Pavon said in a school release. “We struggled this season, but we will head to Washington with a clean slate and play our best in an attempt to qualify for the NCAA Final in Tulsa.”"
