Butch Jones has said on numerous occasions that the slot receiver is one of the most important positions in his offense.

Unfortunately for Jones he hasn’t been able to find a go-to guy in that role just yet.

Pig Howard was expected to be that guy in 2014, but it’s unclear if he will be with the team this upcoming season.

Earlier this week, Jones said in reference to Howard that “There are some things he still has to do before we even think about bringing him back”.

While the Vols try to figure out the slot receiver situation for 2014, they are also turning their attention to 2014 and beyond. On Thursday, Tennessee offered 2015 wide receiver Ryan Davis.

Davis is 5’10″/170 lb wide receiver/ATH from Saint Petersburg, FL (Lakewood). 247Sports rates Davis as a three-star recruit and the 52nd best player in the talent-rich state of Florida.

Davis currently plays quarterback in high school, but he’ll almost certainly be a wide receiver at the next level.

The Florida native currently holds notable offers from Florida State,  Miami, Ole Miss, West Virginia and Wisconsin, among many others.

Davis would fit in nicely to the Vols’ offense as a slot receiver.

But first they have to figure out a way to pull him out of the state of Florida.
