Former Tennessee Volunteers longsnapper J.R. Carr signed with the Washington Redskins on Saturday evening at the conclusion of the 2014 NFL Draft.

Carr, a native of Lomita, CA, played in 24 career games at Tennessee as the team’s longsnapper.

The new Washington Redskin started his career at Tennessee as a walk-on and was awarded a scholarship prior to the 2012 season.

Carr, according to the Volunteers’ official website, wore the number 53 in college as a tribute to former Vol longsnapper Morgan Cox.

Cox also went undrafted. He was signed by the Baltimore Ravens, where he was the team’s starting longsnapper in their Super Bowl XLVII win.

Hopefully for Carr he can follow in Cox’s footsteps.

It would certainly delight Washington fans.
