Former Tennessee Volunteers defensive lineman Jacques Smith signed with the Atlanta Falcons on Saturday after going undrafted.
Smith missed the first couple of games of his senior season with a broken thumb. He returned to play in the Vols’ final 10 games, starting nine of them.
Over four years at Tennessee, Smith compiled 120 tackles and five sacks. He played as a defensive lineman in three of his four seasons at UT. His one year as a linebacker was during the 2012 season in the Vols’ failed attempt at a 3-4 defensive front under then defensive coordinator Sal Sunseri.
Smith, as is the case with most undrafted free agents, has a big hill to climb if he plans on making the Falcons.
It’s certainly within the realm of possibilities, but it’s still a longshot for the former Vol.
