"Tennessee’s game at Oklahoma on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 will kickoff at 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT at Memorial Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma. The game will air on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. The network will be announced at a later date. This will be the initial regular-season meeting between the teams.Despite each program’s standing among the nation’s elite, Tennessee and Oklahoma have met only twice, with both games taking place at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla. The Vols shut out the Sooners 17-0 in the 1939 Orange Bowl (UT’s second bowl game ever). Then in the 1968 Orange Bowl, Oklahoma posted a 26-24 victory to even the all-time series at 1-1.Oklahoma and Tennessee will meet again in 2015 when the Sooners travel to Neyland Stadium in Knoxville, Tenn."
Butch Jones had a brutal schedule in 2013 in his first season as Tennessee’s head coach and it’s not getting any better in 2014.
The Vols traveled to Oregon last season to finish a home and home series with the Ducks. That game did not go well to say the least, as the Volunteers were blown out 59-14.
2014’s visit to Oklahoma does not figure to go much better. The game will be Tennessee’s third game of the season, which means they’ll still be breaking in an entirely new starting offensive line.
And I don’t have to tell you that three games is nowhere near enough time to prepare an inexperienced offensive line for a visit to Norman, OK.
But the experience will be important for the young Vols. I don’t believe in moral victories — and neither does Butch Jones — but Tennessee will be hoping for any positives they can take away from this game.
