Marrero, LA (John Ehret) 2016 linebacker Michael Divinity was offered by the Tennessee Volunteers on Monday night, according to his Twitter account.
247Sports rates Divinity, 6’2″/200 lbs, as a four-star recruit. They also rate him as the 13th best player in the state of Louisiana and the 12th best outside-linebacker in the nation.
Divinity has offers from LSU, Florida State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and UCLA.
I think it’s highly unlikely that Tennessee, or any school, will be able to pull Divinity out of Louisiana. Players of his caliber usually end up at LSU.
But Butch Jones and the Tennessee staff still have to do their due diligence and that’s exactly what they’re doing by offering Divinity.
Divinity would obviously fit well with the Vols. He’s a quick outside linebacker that would help to improve their lack of speed on the edge. That’s something that severely hindered the Volunteers last season. It especially hurt them against teams with mobile quarterbacks — specifically Auburn.
The Vols did a lot in 2014 to improve their overall team speed, but one recruiting class can’t undo the several years of subpar recruiting that proceeded the Butch Jones era.
