Tennessee Football: Vols Offer Rising Freshman Cade Mays

The Tennessee Volunteers have offered rising freshman offensive tackle Cade Mays.

Mays is a 6’5″/290 lb offensive tackle from Knoxville, TN (Knoxville Catholic). Given his young age, he’s yet to be rated by the major recruiting services.

The Knoxville native is the son of former Vols offensive lineman Kevin Mays, who played for Tennessee in the early 90’s.

It’s obviously a bit early to be offering an 8th grader, but that’s nothing new for SEC programs.

Butch Jones has been pretty clear about his desire to own the state of Tennessee and by extension, any and all Vol legacies.

Being the first program to offer is definitely a smart way to show how much you want a recruit, something that the previous staff at Tennessee didn’t do very well.

The Vols have taken a new approach to recruiting since Butch Jones took over and so far it’s paid off in a huge way.

Mays, being a local player (and a Vol legacy), is another player that I wouldn’t be surprised to see commit sooner rather than later.
