Do you remember that day in May when new Vols basketball coach Donnie Tyndall received commitments from 3 basketball players in a single day?

Well, it looks like Butch Jones didn’t want to be outdone by the newcomer. In a span of an hour, the Vols football team received three commitments from highly touted recruits. We already informed you on 4-star JUCO running back and former Alabama player Alvin Kamara’s commitment, but two more players joined him shortly after he announced his commitment.

4-star defensive tackle Quay Picou and teammate 3-star linebacker Austin Smith of Buford High School in Georgia both pledged their commitments to the Vols within mere minutes of each other. Their commitments give the Vols 16 known commitments for the 2015 class.

Quay Picou, a 6-3, 287 lbs defensive tackle, is the 436th best player in the country according to the 247Sports composite ratings. He is the Vols first defensive tackle commitment for the 2015 class. Picou chose the Vols over offers from Ohio State, Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Cincinnati, Missouri, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and many others.

His teammate, Austin Smith, is a 6-3, 235 lbs outside linebacker. Smith is the first outside linebacker in the 2015 class for the Vols and the second linebacker overall, joining 4-star inside linebacker Cecil Cherry. Smith boasted offers from Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Cincinnati, LSU, Miami, and South Carolina, among others.

Both Picou and Smith will provide valuable depth to important positions in 2015 if they decide to sign on National Signing Day in February. The Vols received three commitments in less than an hour and a half, providing some electricity to an overcast morning in Knoxville.

The Vols now have 5 commitments since June began after the three today. More are expected to come in the next month as well. We’ll keep you updated on every commitment and offer the Vols extend.
