Tennessee Football: Tommy Townsend Commits To Vols

The Vols continued their torrid recruiting pace on Monday, picking up a commitment from punter Tommy Townsend.

The commitment gives Tennessee five commitments since Saturday and 18 2015 commitments in total.

Townsend is a 6’1/175 lb two-star punter from Orlando, FL (Boone). 247Sports rates him as the 233rd best player in the state of Florida and the fourth best punter in the nation.

The Florida native also holds an offer from Colorado.

Most fans will probably scoff at the idea of a commitment from a punter being a big deal, but it is a big deal when you consider that former punter Michael Palardy was possibly the team’s MVP last season.

Punter won’t be a position of strength for the Vols again this season, with Palardy moving on to the NFL, but Townsend’s commitment gives Tennessee the weapon they’ll need in order to compete in 2015 and beyond.
