2. Kahlil McKenzie

Of all the elite defensive tackles the Vols have targeted, they easily stand the best chance of landing Kahlil McKenzie.

McKenzie has a name that most Vol fans should recognize. He’s yet another legacy player the Vols hope to land, as his father, Reggie McKenzie, was a standout linebacker who went on to play in the NFL. He’s currently the the GM of the Oakland Raiders. Kahlil’s uncle, Raleigh McKenzie, also played offensive line for the Vols.

Landing a legacy commitment is one thing. Landing a legacy commitment who has the potential McKenzie does is another.

McKenzie is a 5-star defensive tackled who’s rated the No. 31 overall player in the country and the 7th best player in the talent-rich state of California. At 6-4, 330 lbs, McKenzie already possesses the size expected of an SEC caliber defensive tackle.

Not only does he have the size, he has the stats too. As a junior, McKenzie racked up 74 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, 12 sacks, and a forced fumble. He is phenomenal at the point of attack, and he has an explosiveness that belies his size.

While McKenzie possess offers from 24 schools, he’s narrowed it down to two: Arizona and Tennessee. He has said he will make his decision while attending The Opening, the camp at the Nike Campus in Oregon held to show off elite prospects’ skills and talents. He’s expected to announce his commitment on July 10th, and while it may look like he’s a sure thing for the Vols, Arizona certainly has made an impression on McKenzie, and a west coast team would be more at home for the Concord, California product.

Regardless, many believe his choice will ultimately see him don the orange and white of the Vols. His crystal ball predictions on 247Sports have him going to Tennessee, and he’s been in contact with Tennessee plenty over the summer. Check back on our site on July 10th to see where McKenzie decides to play in college. Hopefully, it will involve a lot of orange.
