Vols 2014 Stat Projections: Marlin Lane
By Zach Ragan
Tennessee Volunteers running back Marlin Lane has waited three seasons to be the Vols’ starting running back.
With former starter Rajion Neal moving on the NFL, it means that Lane will be the de facto starter in Knoxville this fall.
But that doesn’t mean that Lane will have the job all to himself.
The Vols brought in highly touted freshman running back Jalen Hurd this past spring and the coaching staff is already raving about his abilities.
I still believe — even with Hurd’s high expecations — that Marlin Lane is in line for a big senior season.
At times last season, Lane looked like the best running back on the field for the Vols. He should have no trouble adjusting to the role of featured running back for the Vols.
I do think, however, that Hurd will eat into his workload more and more as the season progresses.
So while I believe that Lane is in for a big season in 2014, I’m not sure he’ll be able to break the 1,000 yard milestone.
He’ll come close, but I predict he falls just short.
