Vols 2014 Stat Projections: Von Pearson
By Zach Ragan
The Tennessee Volunteers’ passing game last season was anemic at best.
That’s because the Vols had a severe lack of playmakers on the roster, due the early departure of wide receivers Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson.
Tennessee relied heavily on true freshman Marquez North and sophomore Pig Howard.
Butch Jones and his staff, who have recruited like mad men since arriving on Rocky Top, brought in some much needed help with the 2014 recruiting class.
One of those players is JuCo transfer Von Pearson.
Pearson is a 6’3″/181 lb freak of an athlete that should instantly provide help on the offensive side of the ball.
It’s inevitable that Pearson will draw comparisons to fellow JuCo transfer Cordarrelle Patterson. Those, of course, are some pretty big shoes to fill. If Pearson can even play in the same neighborhood as Patterson, then the Vols should consider themselves fortunate.
Pearson obviously has the talent to do just that, but you never know how a guy will produce until you see him in a game atmosphere.
I think Pearson will have a solid season in 2014 and will impress Vol fans, much like Marquez North did last season.
