If the Vols don’t sell out their season opener on Sunday night against Utah State, they’ll come pretty dang close.
According to John Brice, of VolQuest.com, there are less than 2,000 tickets remaining for the game.
Hearing less than 1500 tix remain for #Vols opener vs Utah St. Major kudos to students who already gobbled up more than 10k. #NeylandAtNight

The Vols had a little over 97,000 in attendance for last year’s home opener against Austin Peay. The Vols are already guaranteed to surpass that number this season.
It’s a very positive sign that Tennessee has sold a lot of tickets to students.
The students didn’t come out in very strong force at times last year, something that irked Butch Jones.
In Tennessee’s second game of the year last season, against Western Kentucky, the attendance was only 86.783. That’s an impressive number for most teams, but most programs don’t play in a stadium that seats 102,455.
The student section was a big reason for the poor attendance at the Western Kentucky game.

There’s a lot more excitement surrounding team 118, with fans excited to see newcomers like Jalen Hurd, Von Pearson and Josh Malone.
Even if the Vols don’t see a dramatic increase in wins in 2014, they should see a steady uptick in average attendance.
