Vols Football: Notes From Butch Jones’ Presser

Butch Jones met with the media on Monday for his weekly press conference.

Jones reflected on the Volunteers’ win against Arkansas State and previewed his team’s upcoming game against Oklahoma.

Here are some notes and things you need to know from the presser today.

  • WR Von Pearson will be out against Oklahoma with a high ankle sprain.
  • TE Ethan Wolf  is questionable for the Oklahoma game with a bruised knee.
  • Jones alluded to RB Treyvon Paulk redshirting this season. He said Paulk is not 100%.
  • Freshman RB Derrell Scott is expected back for the Georgia game on September 27. He’s been out with a foot injury and was in a walking boot during Tennessee’s game against Arkansas State.
  • Jones said Cam Sutton, AJ Johnson and Justin Coleman are playing too many snaps.
  • Jones noted that over half of the team would be going on their first road trip as a Vol. He added that a third of the team would be flying for the first time.
  • Jones said he saw small improvements in the running game. He noted that Jalen Hurd continues to progress. Jones also mentioned that Marlin Lane has been “hesitant”.
  • Jones said there will continue to be movement along the offensive line. Kyler Kerbyson could play some left tackle and Coleman Thomas could see time at right tackle.
  • Jones said he wants to see Evan and Elliot Berry more involved defensively.
  • Cam Sutton will be the starting punt returner against Oklahoma.
  • Trevarris Saulsberry is still recovering. Jones said it would be Georgia or Florida before he returns.
