Last week: Beat UMass 34-31

Derek Mason finally got the first win of his career at Vanderbilt, but it sure wasn’t easy.

The Commodores, who were favored by 17 against UMass, needed a big second half to erase an 11 point deficit for their first victory of the season.

Mason, in what can only be described as a moment of panic, started true freshman Wade Freebeck at quarterback.

Freebeck was the third different player to start at quarterback for the Commodores this season.

Sophomore Patton Robinette relieved Freebeck in the second half and led the comeback for Vandy.

Mason has since said that Vandy will have a “two quarterback system”, but added that Robinette is the Commodores’ leader.

I’m not sure it’s the smartest move by the first year head coach and that’s part of the reason his team is at the bottom of our rankings.
