Mark Richt Impressed By Vols’ Energy

The 2014 version of the Tennessee Volunteers might be one of the youngest teams in the country, but they’re also one of the most energetic teams in the country.

That energy is one of the things that immediately jumped out to Georgia Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt.

"Richt: “The thing I see more than anything is just a high level of energy….a bunch of guys playing really hard, a bunch of guys just playing with maximum effort. They look very well coached and really excited about playing. I think they’re doing a really good job.”"

Vol fans have Butch Jones and his coaching staff to thank for the high level of energy and effort that’s being put forth by the Vols this season.

Jones and his staff bring the energy every day, in every thing they do.

There’s no such thing as a “subdued” practice on Rocky Top these days. There’s no excuse for not giving maximum effort at all times.

Just look at the little things the Vols are doing.

The energetic pregame routine. Sprinting to the other end of the field at the end of each quarter.

Those aren’t novelty acts for team 118. Those things are a direct reflection of the personality of the Vols.

A couple of years ago, you didn’t see the same type of energy from Tennessee. You wouldn’t have seen the Vols fight for 60 minutes the way they did against Oklahoma in their last game, even after the outcome of the game was already decided.

If the Volunteers are going to upset Georgia this Saturday, they will need all the energy and effort they can possibly muster.

Mark Richt is right to be impressed by the attitude of the “new” Tennessee. Because it’s certainly a different team than he’s grown accustomed to seeing over the past several seasons.
