Butch Jones and the Tennessee leadership may not have been happy with the chant that erupted in Neyland Stadium near the end of the Vols’ loss to Florida on Saturday, but that doesn’t mean they’re displeased with the students. At least when it comes to attendance.
The Vols are taking small steps on the football field to being an elite program again. It’s a time consuming process, one that can test the patience of the fans/students. It says a lot about the culture change at Tennessee that the students have responded so well.
Students didn’t show up very well during a couple of games last season. So it’s a marked improvement that they are this season.
Of course the real test for the students will be this Saturday against Chattanooga.
The Vols are coming off a heartbreaking loss and there isn’t a lot of “hype” surrounding a matchup with the Mocs.
It will help that Saturday is homecoming for Tennessee, but I wouldn’t expect to see another 102,455 filling Neyland. Even with the 4:00 PM ET kickoff.
