Butch Jones knows his team came up short this past Saturday against the Florida Gators, but that doesn’t mean his expectations have changed.
On Wednesday night, during Vol calls, Jones laid out his expectation for the Vols when they play Florida. He doesn’t hope to beat Florida based on how good or bad the two teams are, he expects to win no matter what, saying it’s “our mindset and our mentality”.
There’s no doubt that Jones is a passionate coach and the loss to Florida is something he will carry until the next time the Vols play the Gators.
It would also be very easy not to have that kind of mindset when it comes to Florida. The Volunteers haven’t beat the Gators since 2004.
Right now Tennessee doesn’t beat Florida. But that’s not how Jones operates. He’s set high standards for the Vol football program and a loss in game they should’ve won does not change those expectations or standards.
Jones is saying all of the right things and I do believe that he will deliver a win against the Gators sooner rather than later.
