2016 four-star offensive lineman Richard Merritt received an offer from the Tennessee Volunteers on Thursday.
Merritt, 6’5″/345 lbs from Washington, DC (Archbishop Carroll), is rated by 247Sports as the second best player in Washington D.C. and the fourth best 2016 offensive guard in the nation.
Merritt also has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Mississippi State and North Carolina, among a plethora of others.
The Vols’ offensive line woes are well documented. Tennessee can sell early playing time to recruits, even to 2016 guys.
So while the Vols’ lack of depth is a major issue on the field, it could be their secret weapon in the recruiting game.
