On Wednesday afternoon, Tennessee’s Butch Jones became the most followed (Twitter) head football coach in the nation.
Jones surpassed LSU’s Les Miles to become Twitter’s most followed college football coach. Jones now has over 145,400 followers.
Tennessee’s second year head coach has added over 19,000 followers since the 2014 season began.
It’s no surprise that Jones is now the most followed coach in the country. Tennessee fans are relentless when it comes to Twitter, maintaining one of the top social media presences in all of sports.
It’s worth noting that 11 of the top 20 most followed coaches are from the SEC. Jones, Miles and Georgia’s Mark Richt account for the top three.
Being the most followed coach on Twitter might not seem like a big deal, but it’s great for Tennessee in recruiting.
Recruits utilize Twitter more than any other social media tool. Seeing that their possible future coach has so much clout on Twitter can do nothing but good things for the Vols.
