Rapid Reaction: Vols Drop Ugly Game To Missouri
By Zach Ragan
The Tennessee Vols failed to win their sixth game of the season, falling to Missouri 29-21 in game that was far uglier than the final score indicated.
Missouri’s defense stifled the Vols all night. UT quarterback Joshua Dobbs couldn’t find any room to run, finishing the game with only 13 rushing yards on 17 attempts.
The Tigers finished the day with six total sacks.
Offensively the Vols could just never find a rhythm. Each time Tennessee made some positive plays, a turnover or penalty would set them back.
The biggest moment of the game came when Josh Malone bobbled a should-be-catch that was intercepted.
Missouri capitalized on the turnover, needing only three plays to score a touchdown.
While the loss is certainly a painful one of the Vols, their goals are still within reach. Tennessee finishes the season against Vanderbilt next week. The Vols should their sixth win of the season against a really bad Vandy team.
Notes:
- Pig Howard led the Vols in receiving, catching eight passes for 90 yards.
- Jalen Hurd led the Vols in rushing, picking up 40 yards on 11 attempts. He also had six catches for 40 yards.
- LaDarrell McNeil led the Vols in tackles with 11. Derek Barnett contributed eight tackles.
- Tennessee had three total sacks on the night.
- Josh Dobbs finished 24-37 for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
- Tennessee finished with 279 yards of total offense. That’s their lowest total since their loss to Ole Miss (191).
