The Missouri Tigers remained undefeated against the Vols Saturday, prevailing 29-21 in a hard-fought battle. Both defenses played well for most of the night, but Missouri was able to make more big plays and capitalize on their opportunities.
The Senior Day crowd was a little underwhelming, however. A game that should’ve been a sell-out was almost 7,000 short, and while that may not have been the fault of Tennessee fans, it was still disappointing not to see a sell-out in such an important game.
Missouri was able to convert 47% of their third downs on the night, and the “Third Down for What?” magic has all but lost its charm. Last night was likely the last time fans will hear it played in Neyland Stadium, however.
Someone might want to go check on that fan who was taken out of the stands by Alex Ellis, though.
Game Ball
There weren’t a lot of bright spots for the Vols on Saturday, especially statistically. But there were a few players on defense who stood out with their effort.
Defense end Curt Maggitt is the recipient of the All For Tennessee Game Ball this week for his solid performance against the Tigers. Maggitt totaled 4 tackles, a tackle for a loss, and a sack, and he was able to get some consistent pressure despite being a bit banged up.
The Vols were able to sack Missouri quarterback Maty Mauk three times, all three from defensive linemen.
Tennessee may have lost Saturday, but they will have a great opportunity to become bowl eligible when they take on Vanderbilt this upcoming weekend. Both the offense and defense should look better in that game.
