Derek Mason’s head coaching debut in 2014 was, how should we say, less than stellar?
The Commodores finished 3-9 in Mason’s first season. Typically, at Vanderbilt, that doesn’t mean a whole lot.
But Vandy was coming off three consecutive bowl game appearances and two nine win seasons. It was easily the golden era of Vanderbilt football. The foundation was in place.
I’m not saying Mason won’t be a good coach. It’s entirely too early to tell. But he’s definitely got a lot of work to do if he wants to be a good coach at Vanderbilt.
