Four-Star Vols Target Sets Announcement Date
By Zach Ragan
Darrin Kirkland Jr, a four-star 2015 inside linebacker from Indianapolis, IN (Lawrence Central), will announce his commitment on January 3 at the US Army All-American game.
Kirkland’s top four schools are Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas.
The 6’2″/235 lb linebacker also announced that he would not speak to any media, or post on any social media accounts, until his announcement date.
Things are certainly trending in the right direction for the Vols to land Kirkland, but a lot could change in the next few weeks. With Kirkland’s decision to not speak about his recruitment, it will be tough to get a good read on how he’s feeling in the final days leading up to his commitment.
It would be huge for Tennessee to land Kirkland, especially with the expected decommitment of 2015 linebacker Cecil Cherry on the horizon.
Kirkland is rated by 247Sports as the third best player in the state of Indiana and the fifth best inside linebacker in the nation.
This is one the Vols really need. If they can land Kirkland, they’ll have one of the top young defensive front sevens in the SEC.
