Vols Offer 2016 Wisconsin Commit

On Wednesday, Gary Andersen stepped down as Wisconsin’s head coach, to take the same position at Oregon State.

How does this pertain to Tennessee, you might ask?

Shortly after Wisconsin began its second coaching search in as many years, the Vols offered 2016 four-star Wisconsin commit Antonio Williams.

Williams is a 5’11″/210 lb running back from New London, NC (North Stanly). 247Sports rates him as the fourth best 2016 player in the state of North Carolina and the tenth best 2016 running back in the nation.

Tennessee has recruited the central part of North Carolina extremely well the past couple of years. Players like Marquez North, Emmanuel Moseley, Austin Kendall and Shy Tuttle are all from the central part of the state.

Williams committed to Wisconsin just a few days ago, on December 4. He also has notable offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame and Ohio State, among several others.

For what it’s worth, Williams doesn’t appear to be wavering in his commitment to the Badgers, despite a looming coaching change. The Badger commit told us he’s still “firm” in his commitment to Wisconsin, but acknowledged that the hiring of a new coach would determine his future.

Considering Williams still has more than a year before he signs with a school, I’d say there’s still a good chance he explores his options at other schools.

Williams would be a tremendous addition for the Vols. They have a great presence in the Charlotte area, but that might not be enough to flip the talented 2016 running back.
