On Friday, Vols head coach Butch Jones confirmed what many expected — true freshman running back Derrell Scott is planning to transfer.

Scott, who dealt with injuries during his freshman season, played in only two games for the Vols this past season. The North Carolina native carried the ball 11 times for 40 yards.
With Scott on the move, depth at running back has to be a bit concerning for the Vols. Scott’s expected departure means that only one of the three running backs that Tennessee signed in 2014 remains on the roster (Treyvon Paulk was dismissed from the team early in the season, only Jalen Hurd remains).
The good news for the Vols is they have three-star running back Rocky Reid coming in next season, as well as four-star JuCo running back transfer Alvin Kamara.
Tennessee is still also hoping to land four-star 2015 running back Bryce Love.
If there’s a silver lining in this news, it’s that Tennessee is probably a more attractive option to Love with the backfield a little less crowded.
