Vols true freshman running back Jalen Hurd was recently “arrested by citation” for underage drinking, according to a report from The Tennessean.

From The Tennessean:

"Hurd, 18, and Hunter Rivait, who is listed as a student in a university student directory, were arrested by citation on Dec. 3 after police spotted a car with its lights on in a university dorm parking garage. Police found an unconscious male inside. The initial University of Tennessee police report does not identify the unconscious male, who was later transported to a hospital. The case was referred to Knox County officials for prosecution, a University of Tennessee weekly crime log noted."

The report says that local authorities would not confirm whether or not Hurd faces charges.

It doesn’t appear that this incident will affect Hurd’s status for Tennessee’s bowl game. The freshman from Hendersonville, TN has been practicing with the team since the alleged incident occurred.

Not to make light of the situation, but this is not an uncommon occurrence. Hurd will likely face some internal discipline, but this is something that should fade rather quickly.

Hurd led the Volunteers in rushing this season with 777 yards. He also added 33 catches for 217 yards and five total touchdowns.

Update:

According to The Tennessean, Hurd will be arraigned on underage drinking charges on January 20.
