Best Moment Of The Season — The Comeback Against South Carolina
On November 1, Tennessee trailed South Carolina by 14 points with 4:52 left in the fourth quarter.
And they somehow managed to win the game.
The odds were improbable, especially after Josh Dobbs threw an interception to South Carolina’s Brison Williams with 10:51 left to play.
But the Vols fought back and made it a one score game.
Then South Carolina struck again — this time in the form of a 70 yard Brandon Wilds touchdown run.
A familiar script had most of Vol nation prepping themselves for another heartbreaking loss on the road.
Dobbs, however, had other ideas in mind. The sophomore signal caller led the Vols on a ten-play drive that culminated with a three-yard Dobbs touchdown run.
Tennessee’s defense then stood tall, forcing South Carolina to punt. The Vols got the ball back with no timeouts, 1:23 on the clock and 85 yards between them and the end-zone.
Joshua Dobbs then engineered a drive for the ages, throwing for 77 yards and running for 8 more. The drive climaxed with a nine-yard touchdown pass from Dobbs to Jason Croom.
Tennessee would finish the Gamecocks off in overtime.
The win was the Vols’ first road win over a team not named Vanderbilt or Kentucky since 2007.
More than that, the win showed fans a glimpse of a new era on Rocky Top. An era where disappointment will not prevail.
Honorable Mention:
While the Vols’ win over South Carolina was easily the best moment of the year, it wasn’t the only great moment of the season.
Tennessee’s win over Vanderbilt, to secure a bowl berth, was also a huge moment for the Vols.
Not only did the win mean the Volunteers’ season wouldn’t end prematurely, it also ended UT’s two-game losing streak to the Commodores.
