Vols Recruiting: Rocky Reid Decommits From Tennessee

Just a week after telling the world that he was still committed to Tennessee, 2015 running back Rocky Reid is no longer a Vol commit.

The North Carolina native confirmed the news via a statement on his Twitter account on Thursday evening.

Reid is a three-star running back that likely saw the writing on the wall when fellow 2015 running back recruit Kendall Bussey recently committed to Tennessee.

Bussey and Reid are different types of running backs, but there’s no doubt that playing time could’ve possibly been scarce for Reid at UT.

The Vols already have Jalen Hurd on the roster and JuCo transfer Alvin Kamara is enrolled at Tennessee.

Reid would’ve battled Bussey for the third running back position on the depth chart in 2015.

However, it only takes a couple of injuries to reach that point on the depth chart and the Vols don’t have nearly as much depth at the running back position as they’d like.

True freshmen Treyvon Paulk and Derrell Scott didn’t work out like the Vols would’ve hoped, setting running back depth back a bit.

Reid, a pure power runner, is a player that would’ve filled a short-yardage type roll at Tennessee. Whichever program ends up landing him will have themselves a fine running back.
