Vols Recruiting: Kyle Phillips Commits To Tennessee

Tennessee couldn’t have started 2015 off any better.

The Vols, after an impressive win in the Gator Bowl on Friday, received a commitment from four-star defensive end Kyle Phillips on Saturday.

Phillips, 6’3″/250 lbs from Nashville, TN (Hillsboro), made the announcement at the Army All-American game.

The thinking was that Phillips would follow fellow Nashville native Ugo Amadi to LSU, but fortunately for the Vols, that wasn’t the case.

Phillips, who is rated by 247Sports as the third best 2015 player in the state of Tennessee and the seventh best strongside defensive end in the nation, recently took his official visit to Knoxville on December 12. He also unofficially visited Tennessee for their games against Florida and Missouri.

Butch Jones is on a serious hot streak right now and the addition of Phillips just makes the Vols’ defensive line that much better. Tennessee already has Kahlil McKenzie and Shy Tuttle coming in next season to pair with defensive ends Curt Maggitt and rising star Derek Barnett.

The Vols are setting themselves up to make a run at the SEC East in 2015. But the good times will extend beyond 2015 for Tennessee.

Butch Jones has now established a solid foundation for the future of Tennessee football. Exciting times are ahead for the Big Orange.
