Shy Tuttle, Defensive Tackle

A 5-star defensive tackle out of Lexington, NC, Shy Tuttle, along with fellow 5-star DT Kahlil McKenzie, gives Tennessee the kind of elite defensive tackle they have lacked for several years.

At 6-3, 320 lbs., Tuttle is a massive young man who will take up plenty of space in the middle. But don’t let his size fool you. The No. 24 overall player in the county and No. 1 player in North Carolina according is extremely athletic for his size, able to chase down some mobile quarterbacks at the high school level.

As you can see from some of his highlights from his time at North Davidson High School, Tuttle is surprisingly fast for a defensive tackle. He even returned an interception for a score.

Tuttle recorded 73 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 2 pass break-ups. Overall those are very solid numbers, but what got him in the national spotlight to begin with was the numbers he put up in his sophomore year. In just his second year of high school, Tuttle amassed 97 tackles, 26 tackles for a loss, 18 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries.

With a full semester of practices and strength training under his belt, Tuttle will surely compete for a starting spot on the defensive line heading into the fall of the 2015 season.
