Jauan Jennings, Quarterback

Rated as the No. 1 prospect in the state of Tennessee by the 247Sports Composite, Jauan Jennings might be the biggest surprise in Tennessee’s 2015 class.

When Jennings committed to the Vols back in April of 2014, many analysts viewed him as an athlete whose ceiling projected higher as a safety in college rather than at quarterback. But Jennings dedicated himself to improving his craft, and to his credit, his hard work paid off in his senior season.

Jennings, the No. 85 overall prospect in the nation, racked up 2,155 passing yards and 22 touchdowns while only throwing 3 interceptions for Blackman High School. Jennings is also a threat to run the ball, as he rushed for 883 yards and 17 scores.

His highlights are only from his junior year of high school, so they don’t show the steps he’s made as a passer. But he has certainly earned respect as a quarterback, garnering praise from the same analysts who doubted his ability to play the position at the next level.

Jennings also earned plenty of acclaim for his performance as a senior, being named the Tennessean Player of the Year along with earning the 2014 Tennessee Mr. Football Division I Class AAA Back of the Year award.

Jauan Jennings is one of two quarterbacks enrolling early for the Vols this month, and with only two scholarship quarterbacks on roster after the 2014 season, Jennings is expected to get a good shot at the position. His mobility will make him an interesting player to watch at the position.
