Vols Recruiting: Sheriron Jones Commits To Tennessee

Butch Jones done went and did it again.

Four-star dual threat quarterback Sheriron Jones, 6’3″/192 lbs from Moreno Valley, CA (Rancho Verde), committed to the Vols on Thursday morning, giving Tennessee their 28th 2015 commitment.

The Vols, after not taking a quarterback in their 2014 recruiting class, now have three 2015 quarterbacks committed. Jones will join Quinten Dormady and Jauan Jennings (both of who are already enrolled) as freshmen QB’s on Rocky Top next fall.

Jones, who decommitted from Florida in early December, is rated by 247Sports as the 23rd best player in the state of California and the seventh best 2015 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.

The addition of Jones means the Vols will be loaded at quarterback for the next several years. The Vols also have a commitment from four-star 2016 quarterback Austin Kendall, though I wouldn’t consider him a slam dunk at this point, as he’s still keeping some options open.

In an ideal world, Josh Dobbs stays healthy in 2015 and Nate Peterman comes off the bench in garbage time, allowing the three freshmen quarterbacks to redshirt and develop properly.

Of course we know things rarely work out that way. If Dobbs were to get injured next season, it would probably be one of the freshmen that steps up to take the reigns.

One thing, however, is certain — Butch Jones is on a two-year recruiting roll and he doesn’t show any signs up letting up.
