It’s not often that a coach pulls in three quarterbacks in a single recruiting class, let alone three four-star QB’s that rank in the top 250 players in the country. But that’s just what the Vols did in the 2015 recruiting cycle.

Butch Jones and company signed Quinten Dormady, Jauan Jennings, and Sheriron Jones to the 2015 class, with Dormady and Jennings both enrolling early in January. All three players earned 4-star ratings on 247Sports, and all three bring unique skill sets to the table.

With Justin Worley graduated and Nathan Peterman trasfering to Pitt, the Vols were left with only one returning scholarship QB from 2014. That one scholarship QB is returning starter Josh Dobbs, but if anything has been proven in Butch Jones’s first two years as head coach, it’s that having quarterback depth is an absolute must. The Vols have yet to go an entire season with the same QB starting every game in two consecutive seasons.

Adding three QB’s in this class was crucial moving forward. But these signal callers aren’t just warm bodies to occupy the bench; all three have the potential to be starters by the time they end their college careers thanks to their diverse skill sets.

Dormady is more of the prototypical pocket passer, but he can use his mobility to evade pass rushers and extend plays. Jones has a strong arm and the mobility to make defenders miss when he decides to take off. Jennings is a bit more of a project, but he had a stellar senior season of high school and brings the most athleticism of the three.

The Vols didn’t add just one solid quarterback in 2015. They added a whole trio.
