Defensive Backs: A

If there was one position in the 2015 class the Vols could’ve taken it easy, it was in the defensive backfield. Tennessee’s 2015 defensive backs will be one of the deepest and most talented units on the field with the likes of Cam Sutton, Brian Randolph, Emmanuel Moseley, Todd Kelly Jr., and others returning.

But the Vols didn’t take any chances, adding several stud defensive backs in the 2015 class.

JUCO cornerback Justin Martin highlights the group, and he has the ability to come in and compete for a starting job immediately. Martin was rated as the No. 1 JUCO cornerback in the country and for good reason. At 6-2, 190 lbs, he has tremendous size and physicality, fitting the mold of a shutdown SEC corner.

Four-star corner Micah Abernathy is a raw talent as a defensive back, but he has the potential to be a special player for Tennessee thanks to his size and athleticism. Much like Martin, Abernathy is a tall defensive back at 6-1, but he is just a little less polished at the position at this time. A few years in the weight room and learning the nuances of the position will benefit him immensely.

Three-star corner Darrell Miller is a physical back who knows how to wrap up and tackle, and fellow three-star Stephen Griffin is an early enrollee who may surprise fans in the spring.

The Vols certainly could’ve taken a break on defensive backs in the 2015 recruiting cycle, but they did anything but that, adding a potential immediate starter and a couple possible future impact players.
