In 2015, the Buccaneers will play their first game since the 2003 season. The program was disbanded in 2003 due to financial reasons.
Former Vol head coach Phillip Fulmer was hired by East Tennessee State to assist the rebuilding of the football program.
The Buccaneers hired Carl Torbush, a former walk-on at Tennessee in the early 1970’s, as their head coach.
East Tennessee State, who will play their home games next season at Science Hill High School in Johnson City, is currently in the midst of a two-game winning streak.
Update:
Tennessee will pay East Tennessee State $500,0000 for their matchup in 2018.
