Micah Abernathy, Defensive Back

The Vols added several stud defensive backs in the 2015 class, and one of the more intriguing backs hails from Norcross, Georgia.

Micah Abernathy, a four-star cornerback, is a rather raw talent coming out of high school, but he should immediately boost the athleticism in Tennessee’s defensive backfield. At a little over 6-feet tall, Abernathy has the kind of size to be a physical, competitive corner in the SEC, and he has the speed to cover just about anyone in the conference.

Abernathy played both defensive back and running back in high school, returning punts and kickoffs as well. Abernathy is very athletic, but he lacks some of the finer nuances of the cornerback position coming out of high school.

While Abernathy may not compete immediately for a starting position in the secondary, he could play a pivotal role on special teams both on kickoff coverages and as a returner.
