Austin Smith, Linebacker

When Quay Picou announced his commitment to the Vols on June 21st, 2014, he was joined by his teammate and fellow defensive player Austin Smith.

Smith is a three-star linebacker from Suwanee, Georgia with good size and tackling ability. At 6-3, 235 lbs, Smith is a rather slim outside linebacker, but he has the ability to rush the passer and prove disruptive in both the rushing and passing game.

In 2013, Smith totaled 72 tackles and intercepted a pass according to stats compiled from the Gwinnett Daily Post. Although he’s listed at 235 lbs, he appears slimmer in his film and uses his athleticism to disrupt plays on defense.

Smith, like his teammate Picou, will benefit mightily from Tennessee’s weight room and facilities. As long as he maintains his athleticism, he should be able to contribute in the future.
