Venzell Boulware, Offensive Lineman

The Vols needed help at offensive line in the 2015 recruiting class, and they addressed that need heavily, adding five offensive linemen in the class. None may be more versatile than Venzell Boulware, however.

Boulware was rated a three-star offensive lineman for Creekside High School in Fairburn, Georgia. Despite his somewhat underwhelming rating, he was being pursued by many top-tier programs before committing to the Vols in August. Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia were just some of the schools to have offered scholarships to Boulware.

Listed at 6-4, 290 lbs, Boulware has the frame to maintain his current weight or add more pounds to slide inside as a guard. His highlight film shows him primarily at tackle, and what position suits him best is the main question facing him as he joins the Vols for the 2015 season.

For the most part, the talk around Boulware has projected him as a guard in college. But he seemingly wants a shot at tackle, and his athleticism and surprising mobility for a lineman may allow him to flourish as a tackle. Only time will tell where Boulware ends up on Tennessee’s line.

One thing is for certain: Boulware will provide valuable depth for the most crucial unit heading into Butch Jones’s third season as Tennessee’s head coach. Even if Boulware doesn’t start as a freshman, he will gain valuable experience in 2015 learning and developing.
