Vols Football: Profiles for All New Offensive Signees
Vincent Perry, Athlete
The Vols had two prospects in their 2015 class elect to “blue shirt,” meaning they won’t count against the 2015 class’s numbers and will, instead, count towards the 2016 class. One of those is Nashville athlete Vincent Perry.
Vincent Perry, a three-star wide receiver/running back, projects to be either a slot receiver to replace Pig Howard after this season or to be utilized as a change-of-pace running back. He was used more as a running back at Hillsboro.
Perry transferred schools as a junior and only played in three games. But in the three games he played in 2013, he touched the ball 40 times and gained over 12 yards per touch (per UT Football Insider). So Perry has the ability for big plays, both in the running game and passing game.
At 5-11, 170 lbs, Perry fits into that smaller slot receiver mold Butch Jones seems to like. Jones had a receiver at 6-feet or shorter in the top three in receiving yards for his team on each of his Cincinnati Bearcats teams, and Pig Howard (listed at 5-8) was the leading receiver for the Vols in 2014 and had the most receptions in 2013.
Perry won’t be able to take the field until 2016, but his play-making ability should allow him to find some playing time early in his career.
