Jalen Hurd Endorses Vols’ New Offensive Coordinator

Tennessee’s hiring of Mike DeBord as the program’s new offensive coordinator was met with mixed reviews from fans of the Volunteers.

While the hire may prove, over time, to be the right move, DeBord will have to win over the fan base.

So while the jury, in the eyes of the fans, will be out on DeBord until next season, the players and coaches that make up team 119 are already making their feelings known.

On Saturday, during an appearance on Nashville’s 104.5 The Zone, Vols head coach Butch Jones remarked that Tennessee’s players are excited about DeBord and the coaches have been “re-energized” by his arrival to Knoxville.

Jones added that stud running back Jalen Hurd, specifically, gave his endorsement of DeBord, telling Jones “I love Coach DeBord, he has confidence and swagger. He’s coached winning individuals”.

It’s still very early in the Mike DeBord era, and spring practice hasn’t even started yet, but any endorsement for the Vols’ new playcaller is a huge positive. Especially considering the criticism that Jones took when making the hire

No one knows how DeBord will ultimately work out at Tennessee. But the fact that the coaches and players are excited, should be enough for Vol fans to also be excited about the future of UT’s offense.
