Vols Football: Mike DeBord Impressed By Alvin Kamara

When Tennessee takes the field this upcoming season, they’ll have one of the best running back duos in the nation in Jalen Hurd and newcomer Alvin Kamara.

After those two, however, the cupboard is bare.

True freshman John Kelly, the only other scholarship running back on the roster, will be the Vols’ third running back.

Tennessee is also hoping to add former UNC-Charlotte commit Joseph Young, though there are some concerns about his academic eligibility.

Depth is obviously necessary, but so is talent. And that’s the one thing the Vols have going for them in 2015.

We’ve already seen what Hurd brings to the table.

And we’re pretty certain that Kamara, a JuCo transfer that originally signed with Alabama, will bring a similar electric skill set to the Vols’ offense in 2015.

In fact, UT offensive coordinator Mike DeBord is already raving about Kamara’s football intelligence and skills.

"DeBord: “He’s [Kamara] really smart and he really is into football. He’s got a high passion for football and obviously he’s got good quickness and speed. I’m obviously very impressed by him."

The great news for Vol fans is that Kamara is making a big impression in just his workouts. He hasn’t even hit the practice field yet.

I have a feeling that once Kamara hits the field, the praise will only rocket from there.

Hopefully Kamara will stick around Knoxville for more than one season. But even if he pulls a Cordarrelle Patterson and plays just one year on Rocky Top, Tennessee fans will feel fortunate he was a Vol for at least the 2015 season.
