Donnie Tyndall Out At Tennessee
By Zach Ragan
The Donnie Tyndall era is over on Rocky Top, according to multiple reports.
CBS Sports reported on Friday morning that Tyndall has been fired due the NCAA’s findings during his time at Southern Mississippi.
It’s well known that Tennessee wanted to do everything they could to keep Tyndall. A source told CBS Sports, however, that there were just “too many violations”.
This is obviously a devastating blow to a Vol basketball program that’s been on shaky ground for the past five years.
Tennessee seemed to be getting over the hump last season after Cuonzo Martin led the Volunteers to a Sweet 16 appearance. The lack of consistent support finally got to him though and he bolted for California.
Donnie Tyndall was largely viewed as a “homerun hire” by the Vols. He didn’t perform any miracles in his first season at UT, but the Vols did look better than most folks expected. There’s no doubt he had them on the right track.
Now it’s back to the drawing board, once again, for the Vols.
I wouldn’t expect to Hart to knock the next hire out of the park like it appeared he did with Tyndall. Tennessee’s basketball program isn’t in a good place right now and the opening isn’t very appealing.
And before it even gets started, here’s why we think Bruce Pearl coming back to Knoxville is out of the question.
