Rick Barnes A Candidate At Tennessee?

Rick Barnes, who was fired by Texas this weekend after 17 seasons, could be a potential candidate for Tennessee’s vacant head coaching job. This is according to several national reporters.

Barnes was fired by Texas after leading the Longhorns to an NCAA appearance in 16 out of 17 seasons. He compiled a record of 402-180 during his time at Texas.

Prior to Barnes’ tenure at Texas he was the head coach at Clemson, Providence and George Mason. The Hickory, NC native has a career head coaching record of 604-314 (.658).

Barnes would be a tremendous hire for the Volunteers, but Dave Hart will have to be willing to open the checkbook to land him.

According to USA Today, Barnes made $2.5 million as the Texas head coach in 2014.

The Vols will have to be in that range, even though Barnes was fired from his previous job.

If Dave Hart wants to get back on the good side of Vol fans, he’ll do whatever it takes to bring Barnes to Rocky Top.
